Well, fall is most certantly here. Yet, one of the most enchanting parts of early fall, at least here on the Mediterranean, is the fact that the sea is still hot enough to go swimming. Tell us, what could be better than having coffee in the city center and then enjoying an outing to the beach?

You have to dresses in style, and nothing is better suited for these “last days of the summer wine” as a breezy, simple white lace dress! Let’s take a look at what Ivna wore and how!

And then we hit the beach, as promised! The white lace dress is equally effective here as it was in a more urbane surrounding. What can we say, perfect ladylike piece for all occasions (except maybe being a wedding guest ๐Ÿ˜› )

White lace dress anyone? Much like a LBD, you can’t really go wrong with this it.ย What to say about lace? This quote sums it up perfectly:

โ€œ…lace is formed from the absence of substance; it is imagined in the spaces between the threads. Lace is a thing like hope. It lived, it survived, and it was desired for what it was not. If faith, as the nuns said, was the substance of things hoped for, then lace was the outline – the suggestion – of things not seen.โ€
โ€• Iris Anthony, The Ruins of Lace

Lace dresses are one of the few dresses that mix high and low, young and old. They have perfect structure yet are loose enough not to look too stuffy. Lace is the external connection between the newborn baby, wearing a lace dress for her christening, and an old lady, making that same lace dress with her expert fingers.

There is something timeless and eternal about lace. It’s not in and out of fashion, it simply is fashion. And art. Although materials like lace have been in existence for a very, very long time, lace as we known it today originates from the late 15th/early 16th century. It rose in popularity in the 17th and 18th centuries – all the lace from this period was hand made, of course, and highlyย prestigious. With the invention of the sewing machine, lace making lost much of it’s mystique and became more of a favorite past time for ladies than anything truly artistical. However, aย small number of true lace makers always remained and accordingly they operate even today. Also, lace is considered part of folklore in many countries and some lace patterns are protected under UNESCO.

Here are examples of some white lace dresses (no wedding dresses!!):
