Retro Caffe

One of my favorite places in Split is definitely Retro Caffe, located just below university campus. For a long time we had a plan to do photo shoot there, and we finally managed to do it a couple of weeks ago.

If you are a lover of retro culture, 50s and 60s, or at least drinking your coffee surrounded by amazing colorful environment, this is your place to be.  Because of work and family schedule I don’t visit it as much as I would like to, but every time I do it really puts a smile on my face, just the fact there is this small, positive place in my hometown.

All the vibrant colors, amazing pictures and wallpapers, unique new and vintage furniture…you really don’t know where to look at first!

We really enjoyed taking these pictures, but if you can visit it for yourself, you won’t regret it 🙂

Kisses,

Dina & Stela

Mother’s Day

My little girl will be two years old in a couple of months. I heard all sort of stories about parenting and motherhood…but not in my wildest dreams could I imagine how my life will be turned upside down.

How you can actually live and function without sleep. How you can worry and obsess about so many little trivial things considering her well being, and completely forget about everything else.

How you can love your husband even more.

And how I often feel that I am the one who is learning, and she is the one who teaches me…all those little life lessons and joys I forgot along the way…

As probably so many mothers, although I spend my every free second with her, we don’t have so many photographs in which we are both together…my dear photographer Stela took these pictures, coincidentally, on Mother’s day…

I choose some of them to share with you guys…

Love you my precious “Little Fire”…

DEE-constructed

I was always such a fashion fanatic, but after I started to learn the craft of sewing I realized just how hard is to make a wearable piece of clothing. Since then I have much more appreciation for “behind the scenes” work which takes in designing and making our everyday outfits.

Designing is a 3D art, and you have to be careful how will your design look from different corners. Technology today allows designers to make gravity defying clothes, with new material and sewing machines coming along every day.

I adore Dior haute couture constructed gowns from the 40s and futuristic fashion of the 60s, where construction became an important element of design.

Hope you’ll enjoy some of my favorites, along with new pics taken by Miss Stela 🙂 !

Road trippin’

It’s time for some Autumn colors, patterned tights and road trippin’ 🙂 ! Ivna visited one of my favorite Croatian cities – Zadar. Hope you’ll enjoy her post!

Kisses, Dee

Hi, It’s Ivna!
There is one day every month which makes me feel very happy and fulfilled. There is no planning or discussions – we just choose a potential destination and go.

It is the road trip day.

Great company, hours of driving, good music, girlie dresses and the Saturday is on!
Something about the Autumn and the way we dress makes it look like a scene from our favorite films. Leaves on the ground, trees going to their sleep. Sun & rain, windy cool weather. Crispy mornings, heads tucked in collars, hands fidgeting in pockets. Sipping hot drinks in bohemian artsy or posh bars. Hot coffees to go on rushed cold mornings.
In keeping with this season and our love of all things ’70s, it’s only natural that the color of choice is brown, but this potentially drab shade can be liven up with rich colors like maroon or copper.  The whole style is not finished without patterned stockings – accessory that makes every combination more interesting.

This road trip was special to me because we went to Zadar, city where I have studied for almost 6 years. There are always some special feelings which pass through me every time when I come back – sweet memories indeed. Let’s take a walk through some interesting city spots.
First should be University, of course. The university in its current modern form was founded in 2002 but can trace its lineage to 1396, thus making it one of the oldest in Europe. As you can see, its location is remarkable.

These are taken just in front of University building, featuring the statue of Špiro Brusina.

Brusina was an expert in natural sciences and founder of ornithology in Croatia. He was also a zoologist, explorer, cultural and public official. A man for all seasons indeed!

Final6

What secrets does that shell contain?

Brusina is not the only famous man important for the city. In May 1964, Alfred Hitchcock checked into Room 204 of the classic and now closed Hotel Zagreb on the waterfront in Zadar. The hotel’s location was one of the best in town and it was from there that the famed director opined that

“The sunset of Zadar is the world’s most beautiful and incomparably better than in Key West, Florida.”

This is the view which I have seen many times while working long hours at the University. Real reward of nature for tired minds and souls after a hard days work.

Beside the University, there are a lot of interesting sights to see. Generally, Zadar is one of the runaway success stories of the Croatian Adriatic, combining ancient and medieval heritage with a bustling café life, vibrant bar scene and the kind of go-ahead architectural projects (such as the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun) that give the seafront the appearance of a contemporary art installation. It is a wonderful place to enjoy, relax, read, swim… or with a touch of darkness experience romantic views.

Another must see is the church of St. Donat. It is located on the town’s ancient main square (dating back from the Roman times) – known as the Forum.

Bata suede shoes and London print bag

If last autumn brought sweaters into focus and crazy printed styles were massive, today it’s more about pastels, monochromatic sweaters, softer fabrics, muted colors (grey, whites, blues, pinks) with chunky, cable knit and over sized designs. So basically the wild prints are a bit dated, but even those I think are great. Don’t do trends per se, you know. Do what you feel like: over sized, metallic, turtleneck, chunky, cable knit, pastels, one colored, fuzzy or whatever. All can be used to be your own style statement.

Basic black stockings will always be chic, but by the end of the season, they’re so played out! Fresh colors and geometric patterns will give your outfit the jolt it needs. Check out these links for more inspiration:

Blast From the Past

My fashion maternity leave is still on, but Stela and Ivna are doing quite a good job on this little fashion blog, don’t you think so? This post is quite fascinating – Ivna was pictured on very same locations and in same outfit like her mother 30 years ago – “Blast from the past” indeed!

I hope you will enjoy reading it as I did!

Big kisses, Dina a.k.a. Miss Dee

PocetnaSLikaHi! It’s Ivna, this is my first blog post so bear with me!

In my younger years, especially during adolescence, I swore that I would never be like my mom. Interesting how things change. Through the years we became really good friends, so I can say that „like mother like daughter“ sounds more like a compliment today.

As you could see with her black wedding grown in one of the previous posts – she’s got style! Not too long ago I have found a old photo album and decided to recreate it with a similar outfit and on the same location – the ruins of ancient Salona.

Split Falling

My maternity leave is still on, but there’s no need to worry, there are many new blog post ideas in this crazy head of mine 🙂 ! Until then, enjoy this new excellent blog post by Miss Stela and Miss Ivna 🙂 !

Kissess, Dina aka Miss Dee!

Well, fall is most certantly here. Yet, one of the most enchanting parts of early fall, at least here on the Mediterranean, is the fact that the sea is still hot enough to go swimming. Tell us, what could be better than having coffee in the city center and then enjoying an outing to the beach?

You have to dresses in style, and nothing is better suited for these “last days of the summer wine” as a breezy, simple white lace dress! Let’s take a look at what Ivna wore and how!

“I am Catwoman. Hear me roar.”

The night crept over the Gotham City calmly like a silken scarf. From the distance, rhythmical clacking of the city subway echoes, blended between the sounds of police sirens, chaos of the traffic jams and barks of strayed dogs. Fumes of the factories, the smog, the waste and the thick led sky. This, is my city; this is my jungle. For all of you who might not know, the name is Selina… Selina Kyle. Who am I actually? Perhaps you caught a glimpse of me in your wildest fantasies… and your most hidden fears. Because this is my jungle. And in that jungle, I am the meanest cat of them all. I am – the Catwoman; hear me roar!
