Today’s blog post represents the very core of this entire blog: my love for Art and Croatian design combined with my other great love and job – Medicine. I already wrote about one of my favorite Croatian fashion brands, “Herman Design” in “Made in Croatia” blog post. I’m honored to be a proud owner of one of their printed leather handbags.
On my model I wanted to combine my profession ( I am a doctor), love for unique handbags, and the motive of Hygieia from the Gustav Klimt’s sadly destroyed “Medicine” painting. Klimt is my favorite painter next to Salvador Dali, Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo.
Hygieia was the daughter of the god of medicine, Asclepius. She was the goddess/personification of health, cleanliness and sanitation.
If you ever visit Split I recommend you to check out the wonderful “Gallery of Fine Arts”, where these pictures were taken.
Leather “Hygieia” handbag by Herman Design, Croatia
Yellow chiffon shirt and black ballet flats by H&M, black pleated skirt bought on E-bay
This was the part that got me by surprise and I loved it – my name and the month in which the handbag was produced

Portrait of Gustav Klimt in his studio
Gustav Klimt was born in 1862 in Baumgarten, near Vienna, Austria. He was a very controversial figure in his time and his work was criticized for being to sensual and erotic. Today, his paintings stand out as one of the most important paintings of 20th century modernism era.
Main stylistic characteristics of his works are: gold paint, symbolism, great eye for details and female figure.
His works remain a major source of inspiration for the world of art, design and popular culture.
Works of Gustav Klimt as a fashion inspiration:
John Galliano for Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2008
Nikasha design inspired by “The portrait of Miss Emilie Floege”
Raf Simons for Dior
Julianne Moore in Harper’s Bazaar magazine as Klimt’s “Madame X”
Klimt’s most famous painting “The Kiss” and it’s re-interpretation
Some of my Klimt favorites: “Mother and Child” and “The Music”
Thank you Miss Stela for the pictures 🙂

When I went to Vienna, I learned about Klimt and what happened to his art after WW2 and I now remember that we had a few reproductions in our house when I was young
My wish is to visit Vienna and his museum…I love his art..so recognizable and unique..Thank you for comment 🙂 !

Love how you matched the Klimt paintings with the outfits! And that’s a great Herman Design handbag. I was also in Barcelona recently. Maybe we passed each other on the Ramblas.
Thank you 🙂 ! I really tried to accentuate this beautiful handbag with the colors of the outfit, and the surrounding of the Art Gallery was quite helpful!
Did you enjoy Barcelona? Who knows, maybe we were taking lunch or coffee at the same places ! Next stop has to be Split and Croatia 🙂 !
Prekrasno! Najdraže torbe Hermanice! ❤
Hvala Vera :)) !! Slazem se, nema do Herman torbi, jednostavno su najbolje 🙂 !
