Back in Yellow !

Finally, after a long break, arrives my first post pregnancy post 🙂 ! First of all, I have to thank my friends Stela and Ivna for keeping this little blog alive with their amazing posts while I was trying to figure out my new mommy role.

My little baby girl Ena is now three and a half months old, and she has become our new partner whenever Stela and I manage some time to do photo shoots.

I thought it is appropriate to start this new fashion blogger / Ena’s mommy adventure in my colorful style – and which color is the best one two announce new life, new energy, new start? Of course, it’s splash of yellow!

Yellow is the color that captures our attention more than any other color. In almost every culture yellow represents sunshine, happiness, and warmth. It is the most visible color of the spectrum and the human eye processes yellow first. This explains why it is used for cautionary signs and emergency rescue vehicles.

It’s a primary color and so it’s the base of endless shades of colors. Yellow remains full, pure, and immune to all chromatic contamination.

It’s not an easy color to wear, and it looks better in contrast with black – add just a little bit of yellow to your everyday outfit, and trust me, you WILL be noticed 🙂

Enough with the small talk, let’s show you some pictures!

Everyone I meet, even random people on the street ask me about Ena’s pushchair. It’s by the fantastic British brand Cosatto, and it was love at first sight!

Walking the A-line

One of the main lady trends in the last couple of seasons is a true 50s classic – A line skirt. Usually reserved for those who love rockabilly subculture, A – line once again conquered fashion runways, and after that the streets.

A – line skirts are very feminine clothing item but I was a bit skeptical about wearing them – I have classical pear body shape and I didn’t want to draw to much of an attention on my hip area. But when I saw this wonderful printed skirt online I just couldn’t resist – she instantly reminded me on an old 50s movies and actresses I just love to watch!

All pictures were taken on Riva in my hometown Split, on a bit cold but wonderful sunny day 🙂 !

Dee in Wonderland

One of my all time favorite books is “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. I got my first copy of this book for my 10th birthday – to this day is one of my favorite birthday presents 🙂 !

“Alice in Wonderland’ is full of quirky characters, each one adding a bit of humor and dimension to the story. When Alice falls down the rabbit hole she enters in magical world of Wonderland where she encounters various talking animals, including Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, White Rabbit, and one very unusual Queen. The first character she meets is The White Rabbit – he reappears throughout the book and acts as Alice’s guide, which is amusing because he doesn’t seem to know even what time it is 🙂 !

The book is very complex and has a lot of symbolism conveyed through the characters and setting. Lewis Carroll intricately weaves a story using these characters to teach a lesson to children about growing up in an entertaining way. Each character teaches Alice something about life and growing up in a dangerous world.

“Alice in Wonderland” was a huge inspiration in music, movie and fashion industry and also became a source of inspiration to this little post –  hope you’ll like it 🙂 !

Crazy Little Thing Called LOVE ! – second wedding anniversary

I love September – It is my favorite month…not because I celebrate my birthday at the end of the month….I love it because I married the love of my love on that wonderful day, September 8th 2012.  🙂 !

My husband Marko and I wanted our wedding day to be relaxed and full of laughter, dance, good food and good music and to be shared with our closest family and friends. After seven years of relationship, and basically growing up together, we knew that in our wedding day we must stay true to ourselves. We wanted the outdoor venue, and we were blessed with a beautiful weather that day. The whole wedding had a vintage vibe – when you see our outfits you will get the picture! My favorite color is green and the whole wedding theme was green and white. We both love to dance and our first dance as a married couple was our little rendition of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by the group Queen – my all time favorite band.

Enough for introduction..hope you’ll enjoy selection of some of my favorite pics of that wonderful day…and read something about the history of modern day wedding dresses!

Fashion. Art. Medicine. Dee.

Today’s blog post represents the very core of this entire blog: my love for Art and Croatian design combined with my other great love and job – Medicine. I already wrote about one of my favorite Croatian fashion brands, “Herman Design” in  “Made in Croatia” blog post. I’m honored to be a proud owner of one of their printed leather handbags.

On my model I wanted  to combine my profession ( I am a doctor), love for unique handbags, and the motive of Hygieia from the Gustav Klimt’s sadly destroyed “Medicine” painting. Klimt is my favorite painter next to Salvador Dali, Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo.

Hygieia was the daughter of the god of medicine, Asclepius. She was the goddess/personification of health, cleanliness and sanitation.

If you ever visit Split I recommend you to check out the wonderful “Gallery of Fine Arts”, where these pictures were taken.

Equestrians do it better

Today’s outfit came into my head the moment I found this green Zara coat…when I saw it,  it instantly had a certain vibe which involved countryside, rainy and cloudy weather…with a touch of English aristocracy – well I have certainly read a lot of books and watched numerous films with English aristocrats as main characters  to know it!

Equestrian look today isn’t reserved only for professionals – it is quite normal to see horse-riders inspired looks and accessoires in street fashion and on the runways. The look is very elegant, and perfect for cloudy and cold days. The main parts of the look are quality well-tailored coats and jackets, vests, fitted trousers, and high leather boots – I can bet that almost every girl has some variation of this look. Maybe in our everyday outings we don’t wear high hats, veils and whips, which were a common part of this look in the early 20th century, but equestrian look and its variations will definitely never go out of fashion!
