Cloche hats and Green-eyed Cats

Having a short hair has its benefits. If you are always late and running from one place to another like me, it is really a perfect style – you can wash and dry it in a matter of minutes, without loosing to much of that precious time. Short hair is a blessing during the hot Summer days – in those days I am envied by many of my girl friends. Only time of the year I catch myself missing my long hair is during windy Winter days when I think my poor ears will probably fall off. I love to wear hats, especially beanies and fedoras, but this Winter I fell in love with this beautiful cloche hat by Sisley. Cloche hats first became popular in the 1920s, when they were worn by rebellious flapper girls who wanted to emulate boyish short haired look, but also to be feminine and sophisticated – I hope I also managed to that 🙂 !

Fashion. Art. Medicine. Dee.

Today’s blog post represents the very core of this entire blog: my love for Art and Croatian design combined with my other great love and job – Medicine. I already wrote about one of my favorite Croatian fashion brands, “Herman Design” in  “Made in Croatia” blog post. I’m honored to be a proud owner of one of their printed leather handbags.

On my model I wanted  to combine my profession ( I am a doctor), love for unique handbags, and the motive of Hygieia from the Gustav Klimt’s sadly destroyed “Medicine” painting. Klimt is my favorite painter next to Salvador Dali, Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo.

Hygieia was the daughter of the god of medicine, Asclepius. She was the goddess/personification of health, cleanliness and sanitation.

If you ever visit Split I recommend you to check out the wonderful “Gallery of Fine Arts”, where these pictures were taken.

Step aside, Wonder Woman is here!

Today a post with a little bit of info on one fascinating imaginary woman – Wonder Woman. For some time now I have owned a Wonder Woman themed handbag by Italian brand Redwall. It was love at first sight – great Italian design with cool print of a remarkable icon. Lately I realised that I’m carrying this bag without really knowing anything about the woman whose gorgeous printed face is smilling to the world around me. I always looked at her as a fabulous woman in sexy outfits who is kicking some ass out of the bad guys. I did a little research and you can trust me – she is way more than that…

Being Edward Scissorhands

I believe there is always a time in life for any of us when we feel alone, misunderstood, and isolated. When you are growing up as one of the geeky, not-so-popular kids (I often felt that way), you tend to find your comfort in music and movies. I first discovered one of my favourite directors, Tim Burton, while watching his amazing take on the Batman franchize – Batman, and Batman Returns. But there is something rather special in his movie Edward Scissorhands. On a first hand such a bizarre story – a man with scissors instead of hist fingers, who tries to live a normal everyday life and ends up rejected. I watched this movie many times, and I always discover something new about it…Amazing music by Danny Elfman…beautiful and sometimes even naive story of love and friendship…and of course, great gothic and horror movies inspired fashion.

At the end, most of all, it is a a story of outcasts, rebells who often don’t fit in…but without them this world would be awfully boring and a uniformed place.
