“Let Them Eat Fruit !” – first handbag and jewelry collection by Miss Dee :)

Ten months ago (Is it really just ten months?!), I finally decided to pursue one of my dreams – learn how to sew. Sewing class was my first encounter with the sewing machine, that strange and unusual object which makes wonders 🙂 !

Studying medicine consumed so much of my time and energy, but the wish to actually made something for myself in terms of clothing and accessories, and to learn this wonderful new craft was so strong.

This blog was a fantastic adventure for this six months and one of the ways in which I decided to express all the colors and patterns trapped inside my wardrobe and inside my imagination.

I wanna say “Thank you!” to my all my beautiful friends and family who supported me – especially to my husband dearest 🙂 !

All the pictures were taken at my parents’ weekend house in village Ogorje, 40 km from Split – they were wonderful hosts for me and my beautiful friend and photographer Miss Stela.

So, that’s enough for the introduction 🙂 , I’m proud to show you my first handbag and jewelry collection for the summer, inspired by the fruit, summer and love…

Frida Forever

Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter, was truly a definition of an empovered, beautiful, and a unique woman. She lived a life which consisted of many ups and downs, life of constant pain, enormous talent, and a will to live to the fullest. In her paintings she prefered a lot of patterns and colors, and her own personal style reflected that. Flowers in her hair, big golden earrings and necklaces, long ruffled skirts and her trademark unibrow made her a person to remember and admire. Today her self-portraits and paintings are widely recognised, and she is a constant inspiration to fashion designers.

I deeply admire her, and I love her work, her strength, and her fantastic fashion sense. I possess a lot of jewelry, but I often end up with one of my favourite pairs of earrings – a picture of Frida’s self-portrait with a thorn necklace and a hummingbird. When I put them on, I feel womanly, strong, and proud at the same time.

Modern time Elf

Every year during the November and December I get caught up by Lord of the Rings virus :)! These rainy days are perfect for never ending LOTR marathons. That wonderful fantasy world often inspires me for some of my outfits…When I first saw this beautiful embroidered green coat (second hand, thank you E-bay), it instantly reminded me on nature, elves, Rivendell and whole wonderful Tolkien world…

Work it girl!

The very first clothing item I made on my sewing class was a black pencil skirt, with of course my own unusual touch – a green zipper and a green underskirt! I rarely wear pencil skirts in everyday outings – I usually wear them to work or work related events, combined with different kinds of shirts and jackets.

There are a lot of unusual fashion items in my wardrobe, but without that classic item my collection would be incomplete. When I don’t have a clue what to wear (and that often happens), I know I can’t go wrong with a black pencil skirt. It gives something elegant and sexy to a woman’s figure – it’s one of the best clothing investments you can make!

For the love of tartan

I was born in late September, and maybe because of that I have such love for Autumn. There is something special in the beautiful range of colors in this time of year – red, brown, yellow…Fallen leaves under my feet…a constant fight between sudden rain showers and comforting rays of sun…

And during that time I pull out my favorite Autumn items – tartan patterned skirt and jacket, with my faithful brown hat. Tartan is a fabric which constantly returns under fashion radars and will never go out of style…it is always being reinvented an it is here to stay. Tartan has some rebellion in it – it is a symbol of Scottish rebellion against England and also one of the main fashion statements in punk culture.
