Stop bugging me Beetlejuice!

At the beginning of today’s post I have to say – I have never had so much fun being photographed like for this photo shoot. There are a lot of goth-inspired clothing items in my wardrobe and I really wanted to use them – story about Beetlejuice and Lydia was perfect for that. It was interesting to portray two complete opposites – quiet, eternally depressed Lydia, and slightly crazy and always scheming Beetlejuice – Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde indeed. After the shoot I stayed in a little bit crazy over-the-top Beetlejuice mood. I cannot even imagine how hard it is for actors who portray these kind of characters to return to normal, everyday lives – they really possess you! They can be really fun to play, because every one of us wants to escape reality sometimes and outleash our inner emotions. But also, after a while they can be quite dangerous, so it’s better to use them in small dosages 🙂 !

Enjoy!

Step aside, Wonder Woman is here!

Today a post with a little bit of info on one fascinating imaginary woman – Wonder Woman. For some time now I have owned a Wonder Woman themed handbag by Italian brand Redwall. It was love at first sight – great Italian design with cool print of a remarkable icon. Lately I realised that I’m carrying this bag without really knowing anything about the woman whose gorgeous printed face is smilling to the world around me. I always looked at her as a fabulous woman in sexy outfits who is kicking some ass out of the bad guys. I did a little research and you can trust me – she is way more than that…

Rock and Roll Star – Part Two

Part two of Rock and Roll Star photo shoot was inspired by two amazing bands – The Doors and their front man, Jim Morrison and young British band, Arctic Monkeys. Hope you’ll enjoy it!

Following text about the bands was written by my friend and fellow blogger Miss Nina at http://idledawdle.wordpress.com/ – do check her blog 🙂 !

Rock and Roll Star – Part One

Inspiration for next two posts has been found in some of my favourite rock bands. My favourite band, Queen, is not in this post, because they will get their own special tribute in the near future 🙂 !

From the very early age I was obsessed with Rock and Roll music, blasting my CDs, mimicking vocals, air-guitaring, and driving my neighbours crazy. I believe every one of us would give their right arm to experience that magic moment when you are on stage in front of your loyal fans who know every single lyric and every chord of your songs.

With this post, thanks to my computer star, Miss Stella, I’m one step nearer to my Rock and Roll dreams!

Always trust a librarian

Ever since I was a little girl, books have played an important role in my life. I learnt to read from a very young age, and my mother quickly realised that it is a  better option to buy me some books than toys  – I totally ignored my dolls 🙂 !

Books were a gate to some new, unknown worlds – and they still are. I cannot imagine a month without reading, and there are usually two or three books on my night table waiting for their turn.

Today I have a huge collection of books, but nothing cannot replace that special feeling of visiting libraries – librarian is one of my dream jobs. Some of my fondest childhood and adult memories are from my visits to the local libraries…what new world will I discover that day? Tolkien’s Middle-earth, Herbert’s Dune…or will I travel with Orient Express thanks to Agatha Christie…possibilities are endless…

Equestrians do it better

Today’s outfit came into my head the moment I found this green Zara coat…when I saw it,  it instantly had a certain vibe which involved countryside, rainy and cloudy weather…with a touch of English aristocracy – well I have certainly read a lot of books and watched numerous films with English aristocrats as main characters  to know it!

Equestrian look today isn’t reserved only for professionals – it is quite normal to see horse-riders inspired looks and accessoires in street fashion and on the runways. The look is very elegant, and perfect for cloudy and cold days. The main parts of the look are quality well-tailored coats and jackets, vests, fitted trousers, and high leather boots – I can bet that almost every girl has some variation of this look. Maybe in our everyday outings we don’t wear high hats, veils and whips, which were a common part of this look in the early 20th century, but equestrian look and its variations will definitely never go out of fashion!

A Night At The Theatre

Every year  the Symphonic orchestra of the Croatian National Theatre in Split has its traditional New Year concerts three days in a row – those are always the last three theatre programs of the year.

This year I was fortunate enough to be a part of the theatre audience on the second of those three wonderful evenings, with my faithful friends and blog helpers 🙂 Nina and Stela.

We enjoyed the wonderful music selection: Johan Strauss the son,  Jacques Offenbach, Franz von Suppe, and many more famous compositors. Visit to the theatre was also an opportunity to dress at our very best – evening dresses, silk gloves, high heels, chiffon, beads, pearls….theatre binoculars – you name it, we had it 🙂 ! Those kind of evenings are a wonderful opportunity to experience something rather different from our everyday outings. They remind us of the old times when the meaning of having a good time was a visit to the theatre, and not to some smoke and booze filled club…

But the most prestigious New Year concert is definitely the one performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra that takes place each year in the morning of New Year’s Day in Vienna, Austria. Ballet dancers, who perform through several compositions during the concert, are dressed by prestigious fashion designers. Hopefully, we will also have an opportunity to be a part of that wonderful concert one day.

Being Edward Scissorhands

I believe there is always a time in life for any of us when we feel alone, misunderstood, and isolated. When you are growing up as one of the geeky, not-so-popular kids (I often felt that way), you tend to find your comfort in music and movies. I first discovered one of my favourite directors, Tim Burton, while watching his amazing take on the Batman franchize – Batman, and Batman Returns. But there is something rather special in his movie Edward Scissorhands. On a first hand such a bizarre story – a man with scissors instead of hist fingers, who tries to live a normal everyday life and ends up rejected. I watched this movie many times, and I always discover something new about it…Amazing music by Danny Elfman…beautiful and sometimes even naive story of love and friendship…and of course, great gothic and horror movies inspired fashion.

At the end, most of all, it is a a story of outcasts, rebells who often don’t fit in…but without them this world would be awfully boring and a uniformed place.

She Wore Blue Velvet

„Blue Velvet“, film noir by David Lynch, is one of those movies that you love or hate – myself being in the first group. The film brought back long forgotten „noir“ genre for a new film audience, with a very important role of its music soundtrack and fashion. Until main femme fatale Isabella Rosselini had appeared in her blue velvet robe, the velvet wasn’t very popular material, but since then it has had its fashion revival. Every couple of years fashion designers give their hommage to blue velvet and the movie itself, with good or not so great results. Velvet is rather difficult fabric to work with, and not very easy to pull off when wearing – you certainly won’t wear it in your ordinary everyday outings. It is perfect for evening wear, and even today stands as a symbol of flamboyance with a touch of mistery, for which we all yearn in our lives.
