Berlin’s Fashion Gallery

My dear friend Nina currently lives and studies in one of the most amazing cities in the world – Berlin! Such an inspirational city deserves it’s very own fashion blog post. This isn’t Nina’s first guest post on Miss Dee STyle, back in August she covered some of London fashion events in blog post “London the Fashionable”.

This is her inspiring review of Berlin’s Fashion Gallery in Museum of Decorative Arts.

Enjoy πŸ™‚ !

Berlin’s Fashion Gallery

Museum of Decorative Arts (Kunstgewerbemuseum) in Berlin, as well as being the oldest of its kind in Germany, is the home of the first permanent exhibition of fashion in the country’s capital. Beautifully displayed fashion pieces tell us the story of the last 150 years of fashion. There are around 130 mannequins showcasing exquisitely designed clothes, shoes and accessories. It’s a must-see collection.

Since the museum was recently reopened after extensive renovation, I decided to take a look inside its Fashion Gallery to see for myself how great the fashion story has been laid out. As soon as you step into the dark corridor you get a sense of calm. Right around the corner you are faced with the first glass box, and the oldest pieces in the collection. The light is low so you need to come really close to the glass if you wish to look for details on the garments. I love how the whole exhibition is completely black, only with lit up glass boxes showcasing the designs. It’s very minimalistic, but quite impactful.

Walking the A-line

One of the main lady trends in the last couple of seasons is a true 50s classic – A line skirt. Usually reserved for those who love rockabilly subculture, A – line once again conquered fashion runways, and after that the streets.

A – line skirts are very feminine clothing item but I was a bit skeptical about wearing them – I have classical pear body shape and I didn’t want to draw to much of an attention on my hip area. But when I saw this wonderful printed skirt online I just couldn’t resist – she instantly reminded me on an old 50s movies and actresses I just love to watch!

All pictures were taken on Riva in my hometown Split, on a bit cold but wonderful sunny day πŸ™‚ !

Dee in Wonderland

One of my all time favorite books is “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. I got my first copy of this book for my 10th birthday – to this day is one of my favorite birthday presents πŸ™‚ !

“Alice in Wonderland’ is full of quirky characters, each one adding a bit of humor and dimension to the story. When Alice falls down the rabbit hole she enters in magical world of Wonderland where she encounters various talking animals, including Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, White Rabbit, and one very unusual Queen. The first character she meets is The White Rabbit – he reappears throughout the book and acts as Alice’s guide, which is amusing because he doesn’t seem to know even what time it is πŸ™‚ !

The book is very complex and has a lot of symbolism conveyed through the characters and setting. Lewis Carroll intricately weaves a story using these characters to teach a lesson to children about growing up in an entertaining way. Each character teaches Alice something about life and growing up in a dangerous world.

“Alice in Wonderland” was a huge inspiration in music, movie and fashion industry and also became a source of inspiration to this little post –Β  hope you’ll like it πŸ™‚ !

Crazy Little Thing Called LOVE ! – second wedding anniversary

I love September – It is my favorite month…not because I celebrate my birthday at the end of the month….I love it because I married the love of my love on that wonderful day, September 8th 2012.Β  πŸ™‚ !

My husband Marko and I wanted our wedding day to be relaxed and full of laughter, dance, good food and good music and to be shared with our closest family and friends. After seven years of relationship, and basically growing up together, we knew that in our wedding day we must stay true to ourselves. We wanted the outdoor venue, and we were blessed with a beautiful weather that day. The whole wedding had a vintage vibe – when you see our outfits you will get the picture! My favorite color is green and the whole wedding theme was green and white. We both love to dance and our first dance as a married couple was our little rendition of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by the group Queen – my all time favorite band.

Enough for introduction..hope you’ll enjoy selection of some of my favorite pics of that wonderful day…and read something about the history of modern day wedding dresses!

Pop Art stole my heart

Today is a rather special day! Besides the fact that today is the first day of Spring, there is one other small fact –Β  this is my 30th post, hooray πŸ™‚ ! One of the main goals when I started to do this blog (besides showing you my obsession with Desigual πŸ˜‰ ), was to show some of the amazing Croatian designers. Croatia is a a rather small country, but artistic talent here is huge, in my humble opinion πŸ™‚ !

I love this skirt by very talented Croatian designer Zoran Aragovic from Bite My Style fashion design, and she inspired me for today’s topic – Pop Art, and it’s neverending influence in fashion and design. I love my clothes to be colorful and bold, and this outfit doesn’t fail me in that department – hope you’ll enjoy it!
