Splendor in the grass

Every year during the Spring/Summer season we have one recurring fashion trend – flower prints. And boy, do I love that trend! Every year has some trend variations – one season there are tribal prints, other vintage feel of the 50s. It is easy to go overboard, so don’t use different flower fabrics in the same outfit. I will occasionally wear flower prints during the winter, probably on some jumpers or coats, just to cheer things up, but the Spring season is perfect one to empty out all of the flowers from your wardrobe and say hello to warm, sunny days ๐Ÿ™‚ !

She gives me needles and pins…

My personal style often balances on the edge of being over-accessorized. I love scarves, watches, handbags, and jewelry in general โ€“ and I’m not afraid to use it ๐Ÿ™‚ ! I started to wear earrings when I cut off my hair ten years ago, and I occasionally wear necklaces, bracelets and rings, but brooches are my biggest love. During the winter I pin them on my coats and jackets, and during the summer they end up everywhere โ€“ on my T-shirts, dresses and bags โ€“ even shoes if it’s possible!

Every brooch I own has its own story โ€“ I don’t buy them because they are trendy. They have to inspire me, and add that extra touch of my own interests and style to the whole outfit I’m wearing.

My profession doesn’t allow me too much color or personal style during the working hours, but a nice little brooch can make a lot of difference on my plain white uniform.

Stop bugging me Beetlejuice!

At the beginning of today’s post I have to say โ€“ I have never had so much fun being photographed like for this photo shoot. There are a lot of goth-inspired clothing items in my wardrobe and I really wanted to use them โ€“ story about Beetlejuice and Lydia was perfect for that. It was interesting to portray two complete opposites โ€“ quiet, eternally depressed Lydia, and slightly crazy and always scheming Beetlejuice โ€“ Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde indeed. After the shoot I stayed in a little bit crazy over-the-top Beetlejuice mood. I cannot even imagine how hard it is for actors who portray these kind of characters to return to normal, everyday lives โ€“ they really possess you! They can be really fun to play, because every one of us wants to escape reality sometimes and outleash our inner emotions. But also, after a while they can be quite dangerous, so it’s better to use them in small dosages ๐Ÿ™‚ !

Enjoy!

Step aside, Wonder Woman is here!

Today a post with a little bit of info on one fascinating imaginary woman โ€“ Wonder Woman. For some time now I have owned a Wonder Woman themed handbag by Italian brand Redwall. It was love at first sight โ€“ great Italian design with cool print of a remarkable icon. Lately I realised that I’m carrying this bag without really knowing anything about the woman whose gorgeous printed face is smilling to the world around me. I always looked at her as a fabulous woman in sexy outfits who is kicking some ass out of the bad guys. I did a little research and you can trust me โ€“ she is way more than that…

Equestrians do it better

Today’s outfit came into my head the moment I found this green Zara coat…when I saw it,ย  it instantly had a certain vibe which involved countryside, rainy and cloudy weather…with a touch of English aristocracy โ€“ well I have certainly read a lot of books and watched numerous films with English aristocrats as main charactersย  to know it!

Equestrian look today isn’t reserved only for professionals โ€“ it is quite normal to see horse-riders inspired looks and accessoires in street fashion and on the runways. The look is very elegant, and perfect for cloudy and cold days. The main parts of the look are quality well-tailored coats and jackets, vests, fitted trousers, and high leather boots โ€“ I can bet that almost every girl has some variation of this look. Maybe in our everyday outings we don’t wear high hats, veils and whips, which were a common part of this look in the early 20th century, but equestrian look and its variations will definitely never go out of fashion!

A Night At The Theatre

Every year ย the Symphonic orchestra of the Croatian National Theatre in Split has its traditional New Year concerts three days in a row โ€“ those are always the last three theatre programs of the year.

This year I was fortunate enough to be a part of the theatre audience on the second of those three wonderful evenings, with my faithful friends and blog helpers ๐Ÿ™‚ Nina and Stela.

We enjoyed the wonderful music selection: Johan Strauss the son,ย  Jacques Offenbach, Franz von Suppe, and many more famous compositors. Visit to the theatre was also an opportunity to dress at our very best โ€“ evening dresses, silk gloves, high heels, chiffon, beads, pearls….theatre binoculars โ€“ you name it, we had it ๐Ÿ™‚ ! Those kind of evenings are a wonderful opportunity to experience something rather different from our everyday outings. They remind us of the old times when the meaning of having a good time was a visit to the theatre, and not to some smoke and booze filled club…

But the most prestigious New Year concert is definitely the one performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra that takes place each year in the morning of New Year’s Day in Vienna, Austria. Ballet dancers, who perform through several compositions during the concert, are dressed by prestigious fashion designers. Hopefully, we will also have an opportunity to be a part of that wonderful concert one day.

Miss Ava, True Femme Fatale

Today’s blog is a tribute to my favourite old school actress โ€“ Ava Gardner, and to the love of her life, Frank Sinatra. If she were still alive, today would be her 91st birthday.

Ava was a successful woman in a man’s world…Her life was always full of extremes – her love life, smoking and drinking habits, and of course, her wild beauty, were her trademarks…She wasn’t called the most beautiful animal in Hollywood for no reason!

In today’s world of inverted values considering beauty, spirit, and love, we truly need more women like Ava!

The Gloved One

Honore de Balzac once said: โ€žWoman is the most charming creature, who changes her heart as easily as she does her gloves.”

There is something rather special in gloves. We often carry handbags, and wear shoes, belts and even hats, but gloves…not so much. Gloves had a huge role in fashion and in development of man kind, but they have always been a bit special. Firstly worn for protection in cold winter days, later they developed into a status symbol. I would give anything to live in the days when it was perfectly normal to wear gloves to the theatre, parties, dinners…even just walking around town. So these days cold weather is the perfect excuse to let my glove collection do all the talking! These black and red leather gloves are the first pair of gloves I have ever bought…they protect my hands of course, but with them I feel elegant, special and a bit devilish all at the same time :).

Put on your red shoes

Marylin Monroe once said: โ€žGive a girl the right shoe, and she can conquer the world!โ€œ What about high heels? In my high school days heels were shoes for older, sophisticated women and my high school prom was the first time I wore them. Since then we’ve had a love-hate relationship. I considered them painful and always preferred my Dr Martens or All-Stars. But everything changed 5 years ago…I took tango lessons with my boyfriend and showed up in my ballerina flats. My tango teacher immediately said: โ€žThis won’t work, you must wear high heels. My then boyfriend, now husband, is taller than me, and in tango you have to lean toward your partner which is impossible in flats. So I bought high heels and learnt to walk in them..and well…the rest is history! I will always prefer flat shoes, but there is something so elegant and sophisticated in high heels. They can lift up every outfit and give it something special. Some of my favourites are these basic red high heels…in them I always feel like Dorothy going to Oz…there is some magic in them..โ€œClose your eyes and tap your heels three times…โ€œ
