Heart of Glass

From early childhood I had fascination with glass, especially colored one. I used to take empty bottles, break them, and then tried to glue them in different forms, much to my mother’s despair πŸ™‚ . I loved different colors and shapes of glass, and in our local church I adored to look at the stained glass windows, especially during the morning mass when the rays of sun would shine through them – those moments were like heaven for my eyes. During my first visit to Barcelona I had stained glass overload – beautiful colorful glass mosaics were everywhere, especially in works of Antoni Gaudi. Since then I blame Gaudi πŸ™‚ for my love and obsession with everything colorful, naturalistic and eccentric –Β  beautiful necklace featured in today’s post represents all of that !

Gladiator Khaleesi

Idea for today’s post started with one of my favorite pair of shoes – black leather gladiator sandals. I bought them five years ago on a big sale. I remember watching them for weeks and saving up my money to buy them. They truly are powerful fashion statement. I don’t feel the need to wear anything colorful or extravagant when I have them on my feet – simple black dress is my favorite choice.

I am a big fan of books “Song of Ice and Fire” and series filmed by them –Β  “The Game of Thrones”. My favorite character is by far Daenerys Targaryen, also known as Khaleesi or Mother of Dragons. I’m very proud that big part of the scenes for the last couple of seasons of this TV series is filmed in Croatia and in my hometown Split. With my friend and photographer Stela I came up with the idea of this post being a tribute to the wonderful George R.R. Martin books, Roman heritage of our hometown and a fashion trend that cannot go unnoticed.

All the pictures were taken in amphitheater of the ancient city Salona, 5 km from Split – this is a beautiful place with huge history…I felt humbled knowing that 2000 years ago gladiators were fighting for their lives at this very place!

Dolce Vita – Vintage Festival 2014.

Two weeks ago me and my friend and photographer Stela have decided to pack our vintage dresses and visit one of the most beautiful little towns in Croatia – Rovinj. Rovinj is located on the western coast of Istria peninsula, which is the biggest Croatian peninsula. Rovinj is beautiful, but we needed a bigger motive for a 10 hour drive from our hometown Split then just usual sightseeing – and boy did we find it πŸ™‚ !

Rovinj was a host of fantastic Dolce Vita Vintage Festival. In their own words : “Dolce Vita is a heritage festival celebrating vintage culture in all of its forms: music, film, design, fashion, dance, food…. Dolce Vita celebrates Mediterranean culture and all the best from the mid-20th century. A true festival experience for all senses!”

For us it really was an unforgettable weekend. Amazing concerts, great food, beautiful town…and the feeling that we entered into the time machine and returned to that beautiful era of dapper suits, gorgeous womanly dresses, wild dances and quality music….I think Fellini would be proud πŸ™‚ !

Sailor Girl !

Sorry for a little bit belated post but I’m having love and hate relationship with my laptop these days! The temperature is dangerously rising in Croatia, and for a very short period of time I managed to wear my, how I like to call it : “OMG, where I parked my yacht ?!” look πŸ™‚

I love the pure simplicity of this look – with only three colors : white, red and navy blue, you can make numerous combinations of navy looks. These looks automatically give you a feeling of summer, nostalgia and old school elegance.

Enjoy!

“Let Them Eat Fruit !” – first handbag and jewelry collection by Miss Dee :)

Ten months ago (Is it really just ten months?!), I finally decided to pursue one of my dreams – learn how to sew. Sewing class was my first encounter with the sewing machine, that strange and unusual object which makes wonders πŸ™‚ !

Studying medicine consumed so much of my time and energy, but the wish to actually made something for myself in terms of clothing and accessories, and to learn this wonderful new craft was so strong.

This blog was a fantastic adventure for this six months and one of the ways in which I decided to express all the colors and patterns trapped inside my wardrobe and inside my imagination.

I wanna say “Thank you!” to my all my beautiful friends and family who supported me – especially to my husband dearest πŸ™‚ !

All the pictures were taken at my parents’ weekend house in village Ogorje, 40 km from Split – they were wonderful hosts for me and my beautiful friend and photographer Miss Stela.

So, that’s enough for the introduction πŸ™‚ , I’m proud to show you my first handbag and jewelry collection for the summer, inspired by the fruit, summer and love…

Fashion. Art. Medicine. Dee.

Today’s blog post represents the very core of this entire blog: my love for Art and Croatian design combined with my other great love and job – Medicine. I already wrote about one of my favorite Croatian fashion brands, “Herman Design” inΒ  “Made in Croatia” blog post. I’m honored to be a proud owner of one of their printed leather handbags.

On my model I wantedΒ  to combine my profession ( I am a doctor), love for unique handbags, and the motive of Hygieia from the Gustav Klimt’s sadly destroyed “Medicine” painting. Klimt is my favorite painter next to Salvador Dali, Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo.

Hygieia was the daughter of the god of medicine, Asclepius. She was the goddess/personification of health, cleanliness and sanitation.

If you ever visit Split I recommend you to check out the wonderful “Gallery of Fine Arts”, where these pictures were taken.

Spring Bomb

Finally, a new blog post! After two weeks without my faithful laptop we are reunited and ready for some new fashion adventures πŸ™‚ !

Inspiration for today’s post is a fashion item which is quite popular last couple of Spring/Summer seasons – the bomber jacket. Bomber jacket is a perfect item for the days between sudden Spring colds and Summer heats. Designers recognized her potential and shops like Zara, H&M and Asos are full of bomber jackets in all possible prints.

Last month, while in Barcelona, in Desigual outlet store I purchased my new prized possession, beautiful embroidered bomber jacket which I can combine with just about anything.

Enjoy!

Pretty Pleat

I still have a slight case of Barcelona blues :), but the last couple of days my hometown Split was finally in it’s sunshine mood. It is the perfect time for my collection of pleated skirts to see the light of the day. I have them in five different colors (white, yellow, green, black and turqoise), all bought on E-bay for 10 dollars each. They are perfect for spring/summer transition and can be paired with just about anything. I wear them with T-shirts, tank tops, jackets, sneakers or sandals. If you want some instant feminine touch, but also to feel modern and comfortable pleat is the perfect choice!

Viva Barcelona! – part two

I have to say, as expected, I returned home to my every day obligations and the feel of nostalgia kicked in! I already miss you Barcelona….

But in the words of the one and only Freddie Mercury:

“…Barcelona – It was the first time that we met!

Barcelona – How can I forget?

The moment that you stepped into the room you took my breath away!

And if God is willing we will meet again someday…

Friends until the end…”

Viva Barcelona! – part one

I feel so lucky and blessed for spending my Easter holidays in one of my dream cities – Barcelona. This is my third time in this gorgeous, colorful city, but for the first time with my husband dearest πŸ™‚ ! Barcelona, in so many ways, reminds me on my hometown Split. Mediterranean sea and mentality, but on a much bigger scale. And of course – colors!!Β  As you could notice, I loooove colors and Barcelona is a city which definitely isn’t afraid of them – and the fact that Barcelona is a home town of my favorite fashion brand, Desigual, also helps with my undying love for this city !

I will share with you some of the pictures taken during our visit. We are still in the town and will soon be of to enjoy some cava !

Kisses!
