Tree of Life

On September 25th I turned the big 30 🙂 ! Prior to my 30th birthday I started to wonder a little bit more than usual about my life choices so far. There were always some bad ones and a lot of good ones, but all of them shaped me in the person I am today. One thing I learned (and even have it as a tattoo on my back!) is to never be afraid of making choices and decisions. “Show yourself, destroy your fears, release your mask!” are powerful verses from the Queen’s song Innuendo, and I try to remember them and incorporate them in my everyday life.

I was so touched with one of my birthday presents – handbag with motif of “Tree of Life” – quite appropriate for my jubilee birthday. Tree of life is a symbol of a connection between ourselves, nature and the whole universe we live in. I cannot wait to see what my very own tree of life is preparing for me in the future 🙂 .

Le Petit Prince

I recently revised my book collection and one of the books I own caught my attention – Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. I consider this book a must in everyone’s library. As a child I couldn’t quite figure out all the thoughts and metaphors which this wonderful book contains, bit I loved drawings by de Saint-Exupéry and I often copied them in my notebooks. Today, with a little bit more of life wisdom and experience :), I find new beauty in it’s simple and so truthful words about life, love and human nature.

Years and years will pass, but I believe that “Le Petit Prince” will stand every test of time, and always teach us and remind us of importance to nurture connection with our often forgotten inner child.

Boat named “Skitnica” in Croatian – English translation would be “The Wanderer” – I think it’s quite appropriate for this post 🙂

Dee in Wonderland

One of my all time favorite books is “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. I got my first copy of this book for my 10th birthday – to this day is one of my favorite birthday presents 🙂 !

“Alice in Wonderland’ is full of quirky characters, each one adding a bit of humor and dimension to the story. When Alice falls down the rabbit hole she enters in magical world of Wonderland where she encounters various talking animals, including Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, White Rabbit, and one very unusual Queen. The first character she meets is The White Rabbit – he reappears throughout the book and acts as Alice’s guide, which is amusing because he doesn’t seem to know even what time it is 🙂 !

The book is very complex and has a lot of symbolism conveyed through the characters and setting. Lewis Carroll intricately weaves a story using these characters to teach a lesson to children about growing up in an entertaining way. Each character teaches Alice something about life and growing up in a dangerous world.

“Alice in Wonderland” was a huge inspiration in music, movie and fashion industry and also became a source of inspiration to this little post –  hope you’ll like it 🙂 !

Eternal Bag-a-holic

If I could give myself a diagnosis, it would be –  Bag-a-holic. I love bags and find them to be extension of my home, my private and professional life..and of course…extension of my inner self.

I really don’t care about high-end brands – besides quality only thing I care about the bag is the story behind her. I love craftsmanship, colors, little details. Bags that stand out from the crowd. Bags which are close to me and have their own story in which I can find myself.

Recently I fell in love with sewing and designing my very own handbags – every one of them is product of love. I hope that one day I will be able to reach at least a part of craftsmanship of some of my favorite handbag designers.

Green is the Warmest Color

Everyone one of us has a favorite color – that one color which is a little bit above all of the other ones. Although I’m a big colors fanatic 😉 , you could probably guess by now that for me the favorite color is one and only – green. Since I was a little kid I preferred her in my wardrobe – green always had soothing and peaceful influence on me. Green is the color in which I feel most comfortable, and even at my home decorations I always prefer green details.

But on the other side green is a great color if you wanna stand out and run away from your safety zone – perfect color for eternal introvert/extrovert fight inside my head 🙂 !

Hope you will enjoy these pictures, taken in beautiful little city Stobrec, located 10 minutes from my hometown Split and check out my all time favorite selection of green dresses, both in popular culture and on the fashion runways. And do tell me something about your color favorites!

Kisses!

Girl Who Fell On Earth

Last week I decided to sort out my jewelry collection, something I avoided for a very long period of time. After I was done I was really overwhelmed by it’s size – how did I manage to collect so many jewelry in these 30 years 🙂 ?!!

After seeing all of the jewelry, finally systematic and in order, I realized how a huge part of my jewelry is full of different animal motives. All around me were cats, peacocks, snakes, bats, owls, ladybugs..and snails. You, you read right – snails 🙂 !

Only one of my favorite Croatian jewelry designers, Daniel from Deni Design in Å ibenik, is able to create such wonderful pieces of art with snails as it’s main inspiration! I fell in love with this wonderful unique necklace from his “Nudist” collection and I’m proud to wear it.

All the pictures were taken in front of the church of St. Jerome from 15th century. The church is situated near the popular climbing cliffs on the hill Marjan in my hometown Split. Near the church are the caves which were homes of people who decided to live like recluses in their search for faith. Legend says that one of those recluses was St. Jerome himself.

Solace of this fascinating place and the rich history behind it, amazing sea views and this beautiful jewelry were a main inspiration behind today’s post.

Enjoy !

Crazy Little Thing Called LOVE ! – second wedding anniversary

I love September – It is my favorite month…not because I celebrate my birthday at the end of the month….I love it because I married the love of my love on that wonderful day, September 8th 2012.  🙂 !

My husband Marko and I wanted our wedding day to be relaxed and full of laughter, dance, good food and good music and to be shared with our closest family and friends. After seven years of relationship, and basically growing up together, we knew that in our wedding day we must stay true to ourselves. We wanted the outdoor venue, and we were blessed with a beautiful weather that day. The whole wedding had a vintage vibe – when you see our outfits you will get the picture! My favorite color is green and the whole wedding theme was green and white. We both love to dance and our first dance as a married couple was our little rendition of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by the group Queen – my all time favorite band.

Enough for introduction..hope you’ll enjoy selection of some of my favorite pics of that wonderful day…and read something about the history of modern day wedding dresses!

Zip It !

My post from the last week, “Istanbul the Magnificent”, ended with the picture of all of the purchases I made in that beautiful city. One of those purchases is this beautiful, flower printed dress. I love to wear flower prints in all the seasons, but you cannot miss with them in hot summer days.

I was especially attracted to this dress because of one little detail which makes her a bit more special – zipper on her front side. It is quite normal to put hidden zippers to the back side of the dress, but this obvious, “in your face” front zipper was that final touch why I fell in love with this dress – he is not there just for function – he is there to make a fashion statement of his own!

Istanbul the Magnificent

I was fortunate enough to spend one week of my summer holidays in one of the most fascinating cities in the world – Istanbul. For a long while I wanted to visit this beautiful city, a perfect mix of Europe and Asia, old and modern. How many towns are situated on the two continents and are so rich with often unpredictable, but important history behind them? Once known as Constantinople, Istanbul was the capital of four great empires. Being located on the Bosphorus waterway, one of the worlds busiest passages between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea, it has a great cultural, economical and strategic position.

This travel was even more special because I was traveling with my mother – this was her first time outside Croatia! – and with two Marija’s – my sister and my longtime high school friend.

The moment we entered the city with our taxi I knew I will love it! Fascinating mosques, busy and colorful streets, amazing food and sweets…what is there not to love 🙂 ?!

Hope you’ll enjoy these pictures, and I hope I will return to Istanbul once more…

London the Fashionable

You may think Paris is the fashion capital of the world, but London is immersed into fashion beyond fashion shows and couture clothing shops. It’s a city that lives effortless urban style, a city that serves as everlasting inspiration to designers and consumers, a city dedicated to exploration of fashion. It is no wonder that during my time of visit back at the end of May there were at least four fashion exhibitions taking place at the same time, not to mention several permanent exhibitions of fashion and costumes! From the famous wedding dresses and history of Italian fashion at the Victoria and Albert Museum, to Paul Smith at the Design Museum, and Prada at Harrods, there was something for everyone. It was impossible to visit them all, but I was on a quest to see as many as possible.
